ABOUT STEPH

The Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him most, he said "Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. Then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die & then dies having never really lived."

Much of my 20’s & early 30’s was spent as a vegan yogi. At the time, those practices saved me. I found community & belonging in yoga/its principles so much so that I pursued a yoga teaching certification.

In the background I was running a vegan catering/food business, Detroit Gypsy Kitchen & in learning my clients true needs, I pursued a holistic health coaching certification. This training was about creating awareness around our relationships: with food/nutrition, with others, with our bodies & ourselves. A very loving & nurturing program to share.

After birthing my daughter Rosie & the Empowered Life Planner in 2017 & experiencing a hormone rollercoaster in postpartum, I dug into how specific macronutrients could support me back to a more balanced place mentally, physically & emotionally. I never thought I’d eat animals again, but there were signs that my body was asking for it & it was game-changing. This chapter also introduced me to talk therapy, cortisol, hormone & nervous system awareness.

When I found Detroit Thrive in 2018, I learned about functional training & how it could help me show up stronger & more resilient at a time when I felt the opposite. Any attempt to lift weights previous to this left me with a bad taste in my mouth. In early 2020, I was asked to take the role of health coach at Thrive & took a deep dive into macros coaching through the lens of measurable health outcomes & wellness optimization.

5+ years later, another handful of trainings (fasting, macronutrients, meditation, death doula, board certification) & 13 years into my coaching career I feel even more clear on how to help empower wellness & vitality. As long we’re ready & desire the shift, with small, manageable, safe & achievable steps (no shortcuts), the wellness goals we desire are within reach.

Understanding that 21st century wellness has come to focus on the individual, it’s my goal to be more community focused & create spaces where we heal together.

With Stephanie's help I have lost 27 pounds since the beginning of our program, my blood pressure went from 170/100 to 120/80 consistently. I walk (breathing hard walking) 2-3 times per week. Most importantly I have a plan. I know the things that equal good health including primary and secondary foods.

Thank you SO much for helping me get back in shape, learn healthy habits, and boost my energy level!  I hit rock bottom at the end of May and was really feeling down...and it changed my life!  I could not have been more impressed! I thought it was going to be challenging to get down to 140, but when I hit that goal, I was motivated to keep going and set a new goal of 130.  I finally made it!!!

It was fantastic working with Stephanie. Her wellness program helped me organize and find areas where I wanted to improve on personal habits that created stress and kept me from moving forward on personal goals, such as weight loss, workouts, and healthier eating. The planner Stephanie creates contains inspirational quotes and my mantra to start my day on a positive note. With these new habits in place, I was able to lose more than 10 pounds and am continuing to lose weight. It was well worth the work and will do it again if I start to get off track.
